What types of fish do you use, and how are they purified and tested?

Pacific Rim Omega 3 Fish Oil is made from salmon, sardines, and mackerel caught in the wild – NEVER FARM-RAISED – in cold, deep waters.  The product is processed and third-party tested and a certificate of analysis is on file for each batch we sell.  The independent testing firm ensures that each and every batch of our fish oil is free of toxins like mercury, heavy metals, and other dangerous chemicals that are found in lesser quality fish oil omega 3 daily dietary supplement brands.

Why do you call it Pacific Rim?

We are admirers of the philosophies of the eastern people, specifically when it comes to health and wellness.  Many of the peoples of the Pacific Rim are known for their longevity, low cancer rates, and overall health and mental acuity well into their advanced years.  We specifically had the people of Okinawa in Japan in mind when deciding on a name.   Their fish-based diet has much to do with their legendary health and longevity!   Hence our name!

When it comes to where our fish are caught, there is really only one choice in the entire world for us:  For premium Omega 3 fish oil like the kind we take, ourselves – Pacific Rim Omegas – we insist on sourcing from clean, cold, deep waters and only use fish caught in the wild.  Eastern health philosophies, western caught, processed, and tested fish!  The combination works for our thousands of customers, our families, and us!  We hope you like it too!

Isn’t Krill Oil and ALA just as good, if not better, than fish-based Omega 3s?

Not even close!  Both of those were made up by marketers to (drumroll) make more money!  ALA has to be broken down and converted into EPA and DHA by your body.  You have to take massive amounts of it in order to get the same amount of EPA and DHA daily as Pacific Rim Omegas  Bio-availability is a major problem with krill, as it takes sickening amounts of those little guys to equal the output of oil from the kinds of fish we use in Pacific Rim Omegas. Our product is simply better for you-and better for the planet!

 

Why can’t I just buy the Omega 3 supplement I see in the store?

You could, but you have to watch out and make sure you’re not only getting a product that delivers enough of the EPA and DHA you need (our daily serving delivers 1400 mgs!), but that the product is also safe.  See, many brands have been shown to have unsafe levels of mercury and other toxins.  In fact, ABC News did a report about this very phenomenon.  (The big name store brands mentioned in the story scared even us!)  Pacific Rim Omegas gives you the EPA and DHA you need daily AND is third party-tested to ensure your safety!

What are Essential Fatty Acids?

Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are “good fats” that are required for normal growth and development. They are not manufactured by the body so we need an adequate daily intake of these essential fatty acids to keep our bodies in the best possible health. Our diet now includes huge amounts of oils that are extracted from plants and used for cooking or in prepared foods. These oils (such as corn oil, safflower oil, cottonseed oil, peanut oil, soybean oil) are primarily Omega-6s. Not only does our body require a steady supply of EFA’s, but also the proper balance of Omega-3 to Omega-6 EFA’s. The proper balance of EFA’s has an effect on blood pressure, cholesterol levels, proper nerve transmission, pain and inflammation.

What are the best sources of Omega-3 fatty acids?

Cold-water fish such as mackerel, sardines, cod, salmon and anchovies are the best sources. Since most of us do not eat enough seafood to get adequate amounts of Omega 3’s, it is important to supplement our diet with high quality fish oils, like Pacific Rim Omega 3 Fish Oil.

 

Will I experience any side effects from taking fish oil?

No. People usually say they can work longer and feel less tired when they supplement their diet with fish oil. They also report having greater mental acuity. If I am pregnant should I take fish oil?

DHA, one component of fish oil, is necessary for normal, healthy development of the eyes, brain, and nervous system. There is evidence that a deficiency in Omega-3 fatty acids can lead to an increased risk of premature birth. Since the baby is using a pregnant woman’s DHA, it is important for her to get sufficient DHA in her diet. Some experts recommend that women take 500-600 mg of DHA per day during pregnancy and while nursing. It is best to check with your health care professional before starting.

Can I take fish oils if I am using medication?

Omega-3 products can change the viscosity of your blood, so they should not be used of you are planning to have surgery, if you use blood thinners or if you take a lot of aspirin. Check with your health care professional to be sure this product is right for you.

Will taking fish oil cause any undesirable side effects?

Generally speaking, no. Usually people experience having more energy and they are able to work longer hours without the “mental break” that we need after several hours of mental activity. In other words, you can stay focused for longer periods of time.

What is molecular distillation?

Can I get the same benefits from vegetable oils like Flax Oil instead?

Not exactly. Omega-3 fatty acids can be obtained from two distinct sources: plants and fish. When derived from plants it is called Flax Seed Oil, yielding so-called alpha linoleic acid (ALA). When derived from marine sources it is called Fish Oil, yielding both EPA (EicosaPentaenoic Acid) and DHA (DocosaHexaenoic Acid). Most medical studies have focused on the benefits of EPA and DHA, as opposed to ALA.

The human body can convert ALA to EPA and DHA, but very slowly. The conversion can be also be inhibited by various conditions such as a diet high in linoleic acid (Omega-6), trans-fatty acids such as fast foods and baked goods, alcohol intake, certain health conditions, and vitamin and mineral deficiencies (B3, B6, C, zinc, magnesium). Experts believe that only about 1% to 5% of ALA converts to EPA, and it may not convert to DHA at all.

What are the signs of EFA deficiency?

Typical signs of EFA deficiency include:
